Reflect

Next, you’ll reflect on what may be blocking you, and learn how to overcome these obstacles.

Refine

The last step? We learn how to continually refine what we’ve learned. Think of this as your new beginning.

“First, get all your ducks in a row.”

That’s what I was told when I knew I was going to ask my then-husband for a divorce. The problem was—I didn’t even know who the ducks were, let alone how to line them up.

What followed was one of the most challenging seasons of my life. Divorce isn’t just a legal process—it’s emotional, logistical, and deeply personal. Beyond the court filings and custody agreements, there are endless practical matters to sort through: opening new bank accounts, transferring bills, finding a therapist, understanding legal options, and rebuilding your life from the ground up—all while managing the weight of uncertainty and heartache.

My divorce was high-conflict and overwhelming. I craved someone who could truly listen, support me through each decision, and connect me with the right resources—from law enforcement guidance and wealth advisors, to parenting experts and emotional support. It took time, energy, and a village of friends and colleagues to find what I needed. That experience planted a seed: no one should have to go through this alone.

That’s when I realized what I really needed back then—a divorce doula. Much like the birth doulas who guided me through pregnancy and delivery, I needed someone who could walk beside me through this life transition with empathy, structure, and support.

Now, as Founder of The Divorce Doula, I help others find clarity, confidence, and connection during one of life’s most difficult journeys. I offer practical planning, emotional support, and vetted resources for every stage of separation and divorce—helping clients not just survive the process, but step forward into what’s next with strength and self-assurance.

It’s hard—but you are not alone.

When I’m not supporting clients, I find peace and joy in the everyday moments that ground me: spending time with my children and cheering them on at soccer and field hockey games, walking my two dogs, tending to my garden, baking something sweet for friends, or heading out for a run to clear my head. Those small joys remind me daily of the resilience we all carry—and the beauty that can grow from even the hardest seasons.
